I am Nadir Fahid. I am 38 years. I moved from India in 2006 with my older brother Nabendu Fahad. We now live in London, the capital of England. Our dream was to start our own Indian restaurant. This is the reason for why we moved here. That is one of the many things we have succeed at. My brother, Nabendu, and me are the head chefs at the restaurant. We live in the same building that we work, at the second floor, witch makes our lives very stress free and easy. I also wanted to go here because the woman are so much prettier when they are my age. In India woman are beautiful and look young for such a long time but all of a sudden they look so old. Almost over night. I don't have a life partner. It might be because i don't go out that often. That is why my new years resolution this year is to go to a club or at least do something social once every week. So far I have failed, but it is never to late. Like I said, me and my brother moved to London from India to open an Indian restaurant. We thought the chances to become successful would be so much bigger than in India because there are so many Indian restaurants back there. We decided to go to England because of the beautiful British accent! And we chose to move to London because of things like Big Ben, London eye, the red buses and the lovely buildings. The people are so polite here also. When you talk to them they ask how I am and questions about me that no one in India would ever ask. I can remember the first time i got here like it was yesterday. It was raining a lot. The streets were almost flooded. There was only between 10 to 20 people on the streets at the same time. They all looked like they were in a hurry. Like no one could bear to be outside when it was raining. I, myself love being out in the rain. I don't really know why but i feel so free in the rain. When I got out of the plane that flew us to England, my brother and I went to a restaurant near by. The waiters and the other people in the restaurant would not look us in the eyes. They were staring at us when we were not looking at them. I don't know why but i guess that is just how the British culture is. British people have a lot of respect to their country, and what the country have done. They especially show respect for the royal family. We also drink a lot of tea. But most of all British people are known for going to pubs to watch football and drink alcohol. Because of the football competition between the different supporters and the alcohol mixed together, bar fights are are not that uncommon. This German friend of mine showed me an article that showed us that bar fighting has gone up 47% from one year to the next. I think the typical food here is very special. It tastes very sweet and is not that healthy. As an example, kids in school usually buy their food in the cafeteria at school. Here they can buy things as soda and crisps. For breakfast they eat things as pancakes, eggs and bacon, a bowl of cereal or toast and beans. They also eat different types of pie and roast beef. In addiction they have some unwritten eating rules. You are not supposed to have food in your mouth when you drink something or at a barbecue or finger buffet you can only eat pizza and chicken with your hands. Everything else you should use a fork and a knife. I think the biggest problems in the UK is teenage pregnancy. In only England in 2009, 35966 girls between the age of 15 and 17 got pregnant. These numbers are extremely high! As i earlier said British people drink a lot. This might be one of the reasons so many under aged girls get pregnant. When you are drunk you don't really have control over yourself, and this might lead to things as pregnancy. Witch leads me to the next problem. Alcohol. As i said earlier the British usually go to bars to watch a game of football with some friends and to drink until they pass out. But not only people that are legal drink like this. The age of drinking legally is 18 years old. If you are 15 you can drink alcohol if your parents allow it. Children under the age of 15 and younger still drink without the acceptance of their parents. British are very polite. They always say thank you, your welcome and god bless you (if you sneeze). This is a problem sometimes because they want to be polite, so they don't tell others when things are not allright. As an example, if an British person went to a hair salon and got their hair cut. When the hair dresser is done she will ask what the person thinks of the way the hair looks. Most of them would not say they don't like it, just to be polite. Of course there are better examples then this where a lot more is at risk. The United Kingdom is well known for its “founder” of the English language, William Shakespeare. He is the biggest poet in the history, known all over the world. One other significant thing from Britain is The Beatles. They were the revolution of music. They had millions of girls and even boys screaming when they saw them. People would come from the other side of the world to meet them and to go to their concerts. Britain is also known for their boybands. Westlife, One Direction, Union J and N-Sync are some of the most known boybands. Day 1 Dear diary! I just got a call from another restaurant. They offered me to open a new restaurant in London. I would've taken it without a hesitation if it wasn't for my brother. We moved here from India to open a restaurant together. I will not feel good about it if I have to leave him alone with the restaurant, and I will not be able to tell him this myself. I know that if I say yes to it, that my brother will be supportive with it and say that he's happy for me, but at the same time I know that he will be crushed inside because he didn't get the offer. He told me that I should take the job, because that is what my brother would do. He also said that the relationship that I have to my brother wouldn't change if I took the job. If this happened to my brother I would've helped him and supported him but it would have been so hard, because this is what I would want for myself. Seeing someone accomplishing something and knowing they did it because they were better then you is so hard. I'm not only sad about the offer. I would love to open a new restaurant, and for me and my brother to have one restaurant each and competing like brothers often do would have been so cool. Day 2 Dear diary! I just spoke to my mother and asked her for guidance. She made me tell my brother about it, and actually he is alright with the whole situation. This is because he just found out that he was allergic to the food we were serving at the restaurant, and can therefore not work here any more. I feel kind of bad for him tho. Even if this made my situation better it totally ruined his whole career. I haven't really talked with him about what he should do for his next job. I don't think that my brother is in a happy place right now so I need to take him out to get drunk so that he will forget about this tragedy and move on. Day 3 Dear diary! Opening the restaurant today was so weird alone. Or at least without my brother, because there are some new workers here. They are all really nice and cool, but it is not the same. I will miss him so much, mostly these first days, until I get used to it. The only thing that makes me stand tall, is that I still live with my brother, he is not mad at me and we are searching for a job for him to do. Right now I have to go. My brother is waiting for me.
